Political Thriller "Child 44" in Development
Three time Oscar-nominee Sir Ridley Scott will adapt the Child 44, British TV-writer Tom Rob Smith's debut novel for Fox 2000. (announced in October 2008)
The production will shoot in Hungary. With a completed script at hand, 'the Budapest thing seems to be locked in,' an American source told FNE. Scott paid a visit to Hungary for location scouting and found locations to stand in for 1950's Soviet Union. Negotiations are underway to find a local production services company. Budget figures have not be released.
Ridley and Tony Scott's company, Scott Free will produce. Its president, Michael Costigan and vice president, Michael Ellenberg brought the project to Fox 2000 last year, before the book's release in 2008.
Set in Stalinist Russia, Child 44 is a political thriller about the inner workings and defects of Communism as seen through the eyes of a KGB officer who gets involved in the case of a serial killer who murders children.

Set in Stalinist Russia, Child 44 is a political thriller about the inner workings and defects of Communism as seen through the eyes of a KGB officer who gets involved in the case of a serial killer who murders children.
Set in the Soviet Union in 1953, this stellar debut from British author Smith offers appealing characters, a strong plot and authentic period detail. When war hero Leo Stepanovich Demidov, a rising star in the MGB, the State Security force, is assigned to look into the death of a child, Leo is annoyed, first because this takes him away from a more important case, but, more importantly, because the parents insist the child was murdered. In Stalinist Russia, there's no such thing as murder; the only criminals are those who are enemies of the state. After attempting to curb the violent excesses of his second-in-command, Leo is forced to investigate his own wife, the beautiful Raisa, who's suspected of being an Anglo-American sympathizer. Demoted and exiled from Moscow, Leo stumbles onto more evidence of the child killer. The evocation of the deadly cloud-cuckoo-land of Russia during Stalin's final days will remind many of Gorky Park and Darkness at Noon, but the novel remains Smith's alone, completely original and absolutely satisfying. Rights sold in more than 20 countries.

Jovoich to Make "Winter Queen" in Budapest
This film is being produced by Thomas Hedman who did Nine Miles Down. And Bondarchuk is replacing Paul Verhoeven on Winter Queen which is based on the novel by Boris Akunin and is being put together as a Russia/Hungary/UK co-production and will shoot in Budapest and St Petersburg early next year. Milla Jovovich is still attached to star.
“We are finally going to start principal photography in March or April so that it’ll be finished in time for him (Bondarchuk) to go on to do Stalingrad,” Seven Arts boss Peter Hoffman commented this weekend.
Synopsis: Based on the worldwide bestselling novel by Boris Akunin, this is the tale of a global terrorist conspiracy. What would cause a talented young student from a wealthy family to shoot himself in full view of the promenading public in the Alexander Gardens? Decadence and boredom, most likely, is what the commander of the Criminal Investigation Division of the St. Petersburg Police thinks, but he's curious enough to send out the newest member of the Division, Erast Fandorin, a young man of irresistible charm, to investigate. Fandorin - naive and anxious to learn - vacillates between bravery and fear as he throws himself whole heartedly into this mystery. Murder and deception compete with duels and reckless gambling as Fandorin finds himself entangled in the web of the mysterious beauty, Amalia, a femme fatale who enjoys playing with the emotions and lives of her many wealthy admirers. Can Fandorin solve the mystery of the deaths without becoming the next victim?

OT--Michael Jackson Heals the World
I know this doesn't relate to Adrian but I just thought I would mention that I went to go see "This is It" last night. A good night to go the movies since the kids were all out trick or treating.
I wasn't sure what to expect but I found myself smiling throughout the entire movie. Michael looked happy, healthy and passionate about what he was doing.. And very pleased with the way the rehearsals were going. There is alot of behind the scenes preparation, special effects and gimmicks but at the end we see him singing and dancing alone to Billy Jean with his back up dancers jumping up and down cheering
him on. They were fans just as much as we are.
The guy was still "Michael Jackson". And the rumors about him looking ill or tired just don't pan out. This would have been the most incredible concert and would have defintely put him back on top. And he also seemed to have a very strong theme: healing the world....Defintely go see this movie

Hungary's Mundruczo Plans Da Vinci Film
Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo, whose “Delta” got its competition screening Tuesday, is planning a film about the 15th century sodomy trial of Italian genius Leonardo Da Vinci.
The project — at an early stage of development — is likely to be co-produced by Hungarian director Bela Tarr, whose “Man From London” was in competition here last year.
“Although there is no script yet, this is one of two projects for which Kornel has specific plans,” said Viktoria Petranyi, producer of “Delta.”
The Da Vinci project —based on the true story of charges of homosexual activity laid against the Renaissance artist — is in development alongside another project, based on the story of Frankenstein that would probably be co-produced with “Delta” co-producer Phillipe Bober of French firm the Coproduction Office, Petranyi added.
Both projects would seek initial funding from Hungarian state sources and were being prepped for 2009 or 2010 production schedules.
“The key thing is that we are keen to get working fast on new projects and to continue working with our established co-production partners,” Petranyi said.

Filming will take place no sooner than 2010, with the premiere in 2011.

Szasz in Pre-Production with "The Big Notebook"
Janos Szasz has started pre-production on a new project, the adaptation of the novel of Agota Kristof titled Le Grand Cahier (The Big Notebook).
Szasz (Woyzeck, The Wittman boys, Opium) has postponed preparation of his planned film Sóhajok hídja (The Bridge of Sighs) to work on The Big Notebook. The author is a Swiss of Hungarian origin.
The novel, which was translated to 35 languages, is the story of twins who stay with their grandmother in a hostile, weird countryside where they have to cope with the situation. The style of the novel is stripped and cold, which will be represented by a similarly harsh, Bressonian style according to Szasz.
The rights of the novel have been unavailable for decades, but this year producer Sandor Söth and Intuit Pictures (www.intuitpictures.com) were able to secure them. Szasz is currently writing the second draft of the script, and plans to scout filming locations and cast the film in the fall. The film will be a German-Dutch-Hungarian cooproduction with Hungarian partner Hunnia Filmstúdió http://www.hunniafilm.hu/, Pál Sándor producer.
The film will be shot in Summer 2010.

NEW--Hungary's Lankoon to Produce "A Journey by Moonlight"
Journey by Moonlight is deservedly a classic of 20th century HUNGARIAN literature and a very great novel. It combines realistic depiction of middle class Budapest manners and mores with a profound sense of the darker forces at work in all of us beneath the veneer of civilisation (forces which were to erupt and deprive the author of his life in a Nazi labour camp a few years after he published this book). Every character is drawn with superb elegance and depth, and the parallel journeys of Mihaly and Erszi are astonishing in their desperate intensity and danger. I lived every second of their pathetic nights of crisis with them and was genuinely relieved by the ironic conclusion.
This book is far more than an accomplished comedy of manners, though it may be read as simply that. Its complex nesting of love-triangles denotes the presence of the muse in, ultimately, nightmarish mode. I believe it is a model and precursor for Cocteau's Les Enfants Terribles, mention of which immediately calls attention to this work's superior quality as literature and imagination. Antal Szerb deserves our love and gratitude for depicting civilisation and its discontents with a loving mockery counterbalanced by a clear sense of the darkness and menace implicit in civilisation's overthrow (or latent in its roots). He knew so much and spoke so well, we are fortunate to have inherited this much of his genius.
Also in development: Don't Look Down, Strange Forest and Necromancer

As all the people who frequent this blog, know I originally posted a "Virtual Online Baby Shower for Adrian & Alex on Sunday October 17. I paid Bonnie (who runs Webby Baby Shower websites $50 to create a little shower site for me. However, within a day or so the folks at the AP WEB TEAM told Bonnie I had invaded Ms. Tonelli & Mr. Paul's privacy and to suspend the site which she did.
(baby news was made public). The original Webby website had several features including a Guest Book, Journal and a Gift Registry; the folks at AP Web Team saw this..After Boonie suspened me, I put up my own Online Baby Shower Blog which had a Babies R Us logo. The ladies over Adrian's chat board asked Carmel today if she was associated

These ladies are NOT being fooled this time around Carmel. First you took the Highlander Set Visit & Cameo Role Auction idea, then Cafe Press (See Blog Sept 2008) and now this...Congrats...That's 3 times in 5 years you plagarized me...Sheryl

NEW--Evergreen Acquires Hungarian TV Animation Project
Evergreen will be presenting a brand new series from Wyvern Images in Hungary at the upcoming MIPJunior following discussions in Budapest between Wyvern's Gabor Koltai and Evergreen's Steve Walsh and Alan Rudoff.
"When Gabor showed me the animation I knew that Evergreen had to acquire the distribution rights. TipTop's a 3D series for very small children with bright colours, delightful and very original characters and simple everyday stories." said Steve Walsh.
"We have no real experience of the international marketplace, but we intend to make lots of animated shows, so we were delighted when Steve and Alan came to Budapest to visit the studio and advise us on how best to proceed. We are very happy to know that our show will be in such good hands at MIPCOM and beyond." Said Wyvern's Gabor Koltai.
'TipTop' is a 26 x 6' animated series aimed at tiny tots narrated in English by a single voice to facilitate the making of foreign language versions.

MyRegistry Provides Donation Service to Charities
**We could buy a gift for Adrian & Alex or make a donation to Peace Fund.. Launched in December 2005 MyRegistry.com streamlines the gift buying process by giving the new Mom the ability to add gifts from any store in the world.
MyRegistry.com’s celebrity member, actress Marisol Nichols, says, “I love using it!” She’s added over 75 gifts to her baby shower registry from high-end boutiques to mainstream stores. The “24″ star, famous newscasters, and other celebs, along with tens of thousands of new parents, have opened up their baby registries at MyRegistry.com, enjoying the freedom of choosing gifts from any store in the world and adding them onto one beautiful and easy-to-use registry.
Expectant celebrities are not only asking for thousand-dollar Stokke strollers and Bloom Fresco high chairs, but also registering for the same affordable baby basics that every typical parent needs (diapers, monitors, thermometers, etc.) from some of the most common stores. From Target and Toys ‘R’ Us to Dimples and Dandelions and other exclusive designer baby boutiques, all moms have the ability to add anything they want on one registry. “We want all of our members to be able to get whatever they want or need for their new baby, and giving them the ability to choose absolutely anything is very enticing, especially for our celebrity clients,” says President Nancy Lee.
“I wish I had known about it for my wedding - I was stuck registering at 2 or 3 places and struggling to find things I really wanted. MyRegistry would’ve made it so much easier!” says Nichols. Couples all across America are also building their wedding registries with MyRegistry.com because it supports a world of possibilities when it comes to registering for gifts. And what’s a bride to do if all she needs is cash? MyRegistry.com’s patent-pending Cash Gift Fund Service is a tasteful way to request cash and personalize it with a name and notes. Members have called their funds everything from “Our Fantasy Honeymoon Fund!” to “Help Us Pay for Our [California King Size Bed, New Pair of Jet Skis, Motorcycle for Two, or New Wine Cellar]!”
