Bullying is behind 160,000 school absences a day
and 19,000 suicide attempts by young people per year. More than 35% of children
have been bullied online, while 75% of school shootings are linked to bullying
and harassment. Adrian Paul and Ethan Dettenmaier discuss the issue with vital
input from in-studio guest Cas
Anvar,
a popular film, television and voice actor whose recent projects include DIANA,
SOURCE CODE,
and Academy Award WinnerARGO.
Cas talks about how bullying affected him in his own life... and how his
influences and heroes inspired him to stand up on behalf of others via the
numerous charities and causes he supports today.
Of the 20 million orphans in sub-Saharan Africa, 15 percent commit suicide by age 18 to escape a future where 60 percent of the girls become prostitutes and 70 percent of the boys become hardened criminals to survive. Troubled by these numbers, 17-year-oldSebouh Bazikian from Glendale, California, traveled last year to the Machao Orphanage in Makueni, Kenya. After walking two hours through garbage, glass, and burning trash with the barefoot orphans to their school, Sebouh used grants and fundraisers to buy 43 bicycles that trimmed the kids' commute down to 15 minutes. His recent efforts have raised enough funds to deliver 32 more bicycles to the Daos Children Centre in Mombasa and the Khayelisha Care Project in South Africa. He's our Peace Fund Radio Hero of the Week, and you can read about his current projects on his Facebook page.
